# Severe weather alerts and typhoon tracking for AI agents

> Official weather warnings in effect for any coordinate, plus typhoon lists, live positions, tracks and forecasts from QWeather.

When weather turns dangerous an agent needs the official word — the warning a
meteorological service has actually issued — and, for the storms that cross
the Northwest Pacific every year, where the typhoon is and where it is headed.
Through AgentKey your agent reads both from QWeather with the same three calls
— `find_tools`, `describe_tool`, `execute_tool`.

## What you can ask

* *"Are there any weather warnings in effect for Guangzhou right now?"*
* *"现在有哪些台风正在活动？路径是怎样的？"*
* *"Where is the typhoon now, and where is it forecast to go over the next few days?"*
* *"List the typhoons in the Northwest Pacific this year."*
* *"Is there a heat or thunderstorm alert at this coordinate?"*
* *"Show the full track of the storm that hit Hainan last year."*
* *"Check these five coordinates and tell me which have an active official warning."*

## What's covered

**Official weather alerts**

* Warnings currently in effect for a latitude and longitude, from official
  sources in China and in the other countries and regions QWeather covers
* Event type, level and text as issued, with an option to express times in
  the location's local time, and localized output via `lang`

**Typhoons and tropical cyclones**

* The list of storms in a basin for a given year, covering the last two
  years; the Northwest Pacific basin — the storms that affect China's coast —
  is the one currently served
* Live status and track of an active storm: current position, intensity
  level, central pressure and wind speed, plus the path it has followed
* The forecast for a storm: predicted positions, level, pressure and wind
  speed for the coming period; a storm that has ended returns no forecast, so
  check its status in the list first

## How to use it

Pass the request in plain language and let the router pick the tool:

```text theme={null}
find_tools(q="official weather warnings in effect for Guangzhou")
find_tools(q="现在有哪些台风正在活动")
find_tools(prefix="weather/qweather")      # browse all weather tools
describe_tool("<returned Provider/Operation>")
execute_tool("<Provider/Operation>", { ...params })
```

Alerts take a latitude and longitude — resolve a place with
[location lookup](/capabilities/weather/location-lookup) first. Typhoon tools
chain: list the storms for a basin and year, then pass a storm id to the track
or forecast tool. Always `describe_tool` before executing.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Building with code?** Alerts and typhoon tracking are available through
> the catalog tools above; there is no fixed-contract
> [Scenario Method](/api-reference/scenario/overview) for them yet. The daily
> forecast and place lookup do have methods — see
> [Forecasts](/capabilities/weather/forecasts).

## FAQ

> **Which regions have alerts?**
>
> China nationwide plus the other countries and regions on QWeather's
> warning coverage list. The alert tool itself takes any coordinate and
> returns whatever official warnings exist for it.

> **Which ocean basins have typhoon data?**
>
> The storm list is currently limited to the Northwest Pacific basin, the
> storms that affect China's coastal regions. Track and forecast tools work
> for any storm id the list returns.

> **Can it notify me when a warning is issued?**
>
> No. Every call is a pull at request time. To watch a location, call on a
> schedule and compare the active warnings between runs.
