# Weather forecasts for AI agents

> Current conditions, hourly and daily forecasts, grid-point weather for any coordinate, minute-level rain, recent history and life indices from QWeather.

Weather is the most asked-for piece of live data there is, and it is
location-bound: an agent needs the forecast for this place, these hours.
Through AgentKey your agent reads QWeather with the same three calls —
`find_tools`, `describe_tool`, `execute_tool` — for current conditions,
hourly and daily forecasts, grid forecasts at any coordinate, minute-level
precipitation, the last few days of history and the everyday life indices.

## What you can ask

* *"What's the weather in Hangzhou right now?"*
* *"Hour by hour for Shenzhen tomorrow — will it rain during the morning commute?"*
* *"明天北京会下雨吗？几点开始？"*
* *"Seven-day forecast for Tokyo with highs, lows and UV."*
* *"Will it rain at this exact latitude and longitude in the next two hours?"*
* *"What was the weather in Chengdu last Saturday?"*
* *"Is tomorrow a good day to wash the car in Shanghai?"*
* *"Give me the 15-day outlook for Lhasa."*

## What's covered

**Current conditions**

* Real-time weather for Chinese cities, counties and districts and for cities
  worldwide: temperature, feels-like temperature, wind force and direction,
  humidity, pressure, precipitation, visibility, dew point and cloud cover
* Each observation carries its observation time, since readings are
  near-real-time rather than instantaneous

**Hourly and daily forecasts**

* Hourly forecasts for the next 24, 72 or 168 hours: temperature, condition,
  wind, humidity, pressure, precipitation probability, dew point, cloud cover
* Daily forecasts for 3, 7, 10, 15 or 30 days: sunrise and sunset, moonrise
  and moonset, highs and lows, day and night conditions, wind, humidity,
  pressure, precipitation, dew point, UV index and visibility

**Grid-point forecasts for any coordinate**

* Current, hourly (24 or 72 hours) and daily forecasts from a numerical
  model at 3–5 km resolution, worldwide, in metric or imperial units
* Times are expressed in UTC, and the model output is not meant to be
  compared against station observations

**Minute-level precipitation**

* Rain nowcasts for China at 1 km resolution: the next two hours in
  five-minute steps

**Recent history**

* Reanalysis weather for any of the last ten days, by date, in metric or
  imperial units

**Life indices**

* For China: comfort, car washing, dressing, cold and flu, sport, travel, UV,
  pollutant dispersion, air conditioning, allergy, sunglasses, makeup,
  laundry drying, traffic, fishing and sunscreen, for one or three days
* Elsewhere: sport, car washing, UV and fishing

## How to use it

Pass the request in plain language and let the router pick the tool:

```text theme={null}
find_tools(q="hourly rain forecast for Shenzhen tomorrow")
find_tools(q="明天北京会下雨吗")
find_tools(prefix="weather/qweather")      # browse all weather tools
describe_tool("<returned Provider/Operation>")
execute_tool("<Provider/Operation>", { location: "<location id or lon,lat>", ...params })
```

City forecasts take a QWeather location id or a `longitude,latitude` pair —
resolve a place name first with
[location lookup](/capabilities/weather/location-lookup). Grid tools take
coordinates only. Tool summaries are in Chinese, but `find_tools` matches
either language. Always `describe_tool` before executing: the hourly and
daily tools require a range such as `72h` or `7d`, and responses can be
localized through `lang`.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Building with code?** The same capability is available as fixed-contract
> [Scenario Methods](/api-reference/scenario/overview):
> [`weather.forecast`](/api-reference/scenario/methods/weather-forecast) for
> a daily forecast by coordinate or location id, and
> [`weather.location.search`](/api-reference/scenario/methods/weather-location-search)
> to find the place first.

## FAQ

> **Which places are covered?**
>
> City weather covers Chinese cities, counties and districts, and cities
> worldwide. Grid forecasts work for any coordinate
> on Earth. Minute-level precipitation is China only.

> **How fresh is the data?**
>
> Fetched from QWeather at request time. Observations are near-real-time and
> stamped with their observation time; forecasts reflect the latest model
> run available at the moment of the call.

> **Units and languages?**
>
> Grid and historical tools take metric or imperial. Responses can be
> localized through the `lang` parameter, and the daily forecast includes
> sun and moon times for each day.
