# Air quality data for AI agents

> Real-time AQI, pollutant concentrations and health advice at 1 km resolution, hourly and three-day forecasts, and monitoring-station readings from QWeather.

Air quality decides whether to run outside, open a window or move an event
indoors, and the right number depends on where you stand — the index used in
Beijing is not the one used in Bangkok. Through AgentKey your agent reads
QWeather air-quality data with the same three calls — `find_tools`,
`describe_tool`, `execute_tool` — for current conditions, hourly and daily
forecasts, and the raw readings of individual monitoring stations.

## What you can ask

* *"What's the air quality in Beijing right now, and what's the main pollutant?"*
* *"Will PM2.5 in Delhi be worse this afternoon?"*
* *"上海未来三天空气质量预报怎么样？"*
* *"Is it safe to run outdoors in Bangkok tomorrow morning?"*
* *"Give me the hourly AQI for the next 24 hours at this coordinate."*
* *"Which monitoring station is nearest to this point, and what does it read?"*
* *"Compare today's air quality in Seoul using the local standard and a common index."*

## What's covered

**Current air quality**

* Real-time air quality for a latitude and longitude at 1 km resolution
* The AQI, its level, colour and primary pollutant under the local standard
  of the country or region, plus QWeather's universal AQI for comparison
  across borders
* Pollutant concentrations and per-pollutant sub-indices
* Health advice, and the monitoring stations the reading is associated with

**Forecasts**

* Hourly air quality for the next 24 hours: AQI, concentrations, sub-indices
  and health advice
* Daily air quality for the next three days: AQI, concentrations and health
  advice

**Monitoring stations**

* Pollutant concentrations as measured at a specific station, by station id
* Station readings are observational and can be delayed or missing because
  of maintenance, removal or local regulation

## How to use it

Pass the request in plain language and let the router pick the tool:

```text theme={null}
find_tools(q="air quality in Beijing right now with main pollutant")
find_tools(q="上海未来三天空气质量")
find_tools(prefix="weather/qweather")      # browse all weather tools
describe_tool("<returned Provider/Operation>")
execute_tool("<Provider/Operation>", { latitude: 39.9, longitude: 116.4, ...params })
```

Air-quality tools take a latitude and longitude; use
[location lookup](/capabilities/weather/location-lookup) to turn a place name
into coordinates, and take station ids from the current-air-quality response.
Always `describe_tool` before executing.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Building with code?** Air quality is available through the catalog tools
> above; there is no fixed-contract
> [Scenario Method](/api-reference/scenario/overview) for it yet. The daily
> weather forecast and place lookup do have methods — see
> [Forecasts](/capabilities/weather/forecasts).

## FAQ

> **Which AQI standard is used?**
>
> Both. Each reading reports the index defined by the local authority of
> the country or region, and QWeather's universal AQI so that two cities can
> be compared on one scale.

> **Which countries are covered?**
>
> The local-standard AQI is available for the countries and regions
> QWeather supports; the universal index and pollutant concentrations are
> returned for any coordinate it has data for. Health advice and names can
> be localized through the `lang` parameter.

> **How fresh is the data?**
>
> Fetched at request time. Current readings are near-real-time; the hourly
> and daily forecasts reflect the latest run available when you call.
