# Reddit data for AI agents

> Search Reddit posts, read full comment trees, browse subreddit feeds and rules, profile users and see trending searches through AgentKey — no API key needed.

Reddit is where candid product opinions, niche expertise and early signals live,
and since the official API moved behind paid access it has become hard for an
agent to reach: quotas are tight and the site blocks unauthenticated scraping.
Through AgentKey your agent reads public Reddit data the same way it reads
everything else — `find_tools`, `describe_tool`, `execute_tool` — with more
than one provider behind the scenes, so one route failing does not stop the
task.

## What you can ask

* *"What is r/LocalLLaMA saying about the new Llama release this week?"*
* *"Pull the full comment tree of this thread and summarize the strongest arguments on each side."*
* *"Find the most upvoted posts mentioning our product across Reddit."*
* *"What are the rules and posting guidelines of r/startups?"*
* *"Show me what u/spez has posted and commented on recently."*
* *"What are people searching for on Reddit right now?"*
* *"Which subreddits is this user most active in?"*
* *"Give me today's popular feed and the pinned highlights of r/MachineLearning."*

## What's covered

**Posts**

* Keyword search for posts, with a continuation token to page through results
* Post detail by ID, single or in batches
* Comment trees with pagination, and the replies hidden under a collapsed
  comment
* Community highlights — featured posts and announcements for a subreddit

**Subreddits**

* Subreddit info, rules and style, settings and post channels
* The subreddit feed, and topic feeds that group several communities
* Home, popular, explore, news and games feeds as the app shows them
* Muted-status check for a subreddit

**Users**

* Profile, submitted posts and comment history
* The subreddits a user is active in, and their public trophies

**Search and discovery**

* Dynamic search across posts, communities, comments, media and users
* Typeahead suggestions and today's trending searches
* Reddit Answers — the AI-generated posts and comments Reddit builds for a
  question

## How to use it

Pass the request in plain language and let the router pick the tool:

```text theme={null}
find_tools(q="what r/LocalLLaMA thinks about the new Llama release")
find_tools(prefix="social/reddit")         # browse everything for Reddit
describe_tool("<returned Provider/Operation>")
execute_tool("<Provider/Operation>", { ...params })
```

Both English and Chinese phrasing work, and the platform's usual English and Chinese names all land here. Always `describe_tool` before executing —
parameters and per-call costs differ between providers.

## FAQ

> **Do I need a Reddit account or API key?**
>
> No. AgentKey holds the upstream access; your agent only needs your AgentKey
> subscription.

> **Can it read private or quarantined subreddits?**
>
> No. Only publicly visible posts, comments, subreddits and profiles are
> available.

> **How do very long comment threads work?**
>
> Comments are paginated, and replies that Reddit collapses behind a "more"
> cursor come from a separate call for that comment. Plan on several calls
> for a thread with thousands of comments, and check the per-call cost with
> `describe_tool` first.
